Are all iPhone and iPad casinos the same?

I recently purchashed the new iPad and so far I've tried a number of mobile casinos and I was disappointed to find that they basically all offered very similar casino games. Is there any variation in casino games for iOS?

My favourite casino games are progressive slots and keno.

    Hi Mike

Many casino apps for the iPhone are the same because they are all provided by a handful of developers. For instance, both Platinum Play and Spin Palace mobile casinos are provided by Microgaming/Spin so even though the games may have a different logo or skin they are basically the same, with identical payout rates.

The whole mobile gaming industry is still in its infancy so it is inevitable that a number of other mobile gambing developers will join the party in the near future and offer a completely different selection of slots, blackjack, rouletter, keno and craps apps.

Another big mobile poker developer is PlayTech. They provide a wide variety of real money casino games to big operators like William Hill and Bet365. They currently supply the following mobile casino games for the iPhone/iPad - Roulette, Desert Treaure, Frankie's Slots, Blackjack, Jacks or Better, Gold Rally Slots, Vacation Station, Love Match, Club Night, Iron Man Scratch, Rocky Scratch and Pink Panter Scratch Cards.

You could try the mFortune casino. They are a UK mobile casino that develop their own games independently so you won't find them anywhere else. They work on 99% of phones including old crappy Nokias.

Slotland also develop slots apps that are totally unique. They also accept players from the United States.

To answer the original question, I think disappointingly so far most iPad casino games are identical to their iPhone counterparts. They're just expanded to fit the iPads screen. If anyone knows of some decent iPad only casino apps then I'd love to hear about them. In my opinion the iPad is the perfect platform to play mobile casino games on. The screen is a nice size and the touchscreen allows you to spin the roulette wheel or select your cards in blackjack.

888 Casino also develop their own mobile slots apps, European, American & French Roulette apps and American & Classic Blackjack apps.

A brand new mobile casino called Big Fish Games has been launched today in the Apple App Store. If you live in the United Kingdom you can now download and play a variety of real wagering blackjack, slots, roulette and video poker apps from any iOS device. The apps have been developed in-house so are unique to Big Fish. The new casino games are also available on Facebook and Android.

I presume there is going to be a difference between iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 casino games going forward seeing as the newer version is about an inch taller.

Although many sportsbooks and poker rooms buy their casino apps from a couple of the same sources, some online casinos develop their own blackjack, roulette and slots apps. For a good example check out these United States friendly iPhone and Android casinos.

Yes, the newer iOS casino games will be developed to fill the complete iPhone screen.

A new US friendly real money iPhone casino called Gossip Slots has appeared on the market that offers gamers the option to chat while they play their favorite blackjack, slots or roulette app. The app is also compatible with Windows Phone and Android tablets and phones. The games have been developed using HTML5 so they're web based rather than App Store apps.

Most are the same although I recently tried to use a browser based slot games on my iPad 3 and it wouldn't work even though I had no problems playing the casino games on my iPhone. Despite this it has been my experience that most web apps work on all iOS phone and tablets.

Rather than developing individual apps for iOS, BlackBerry, Android or Android phones and tablets, mobile gambling companies are increasingly starting to develop web apps that are played from the browser of any internet enabled device. This dramatically cuts down on the cost of developing and testing apps for a wide range of platforms. It also means that the web based sports betting, casino and poker apps will be exactly the same regardless of what phone you are using.

But isn't it a nuisance to have to launch your Safari browser and type in the URL of the casino on your phone every time you want to play? Maybe I'm just lazy but I prefer to have an app installed for quick access.

You don't need to do that. Next time you use a bookmaker, poker or casino web-app you should bookmark it to the home screen of your phone from Safari. A little app icon will appear on your phones screen. The next time you want to play slots or table games on your iPhone you'll just need to click on that icon and the app will launch automatically. The URL bar will be missing too which gives you more space on the screen.

The latest Sky Bet casino apps use Apple TouchID to allow players to login and play games like slots, baccarat, roulette and blackjack without the need to login using a username and password. I don't know of any mobile casinos that offer this fingerprint authentication on Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Google Nexus.
