What will the Apple Watch mean for mobile gambling?

Bloomberg are reporting today that the Apple watch (iWatch ?) will be released this year . As is customary with Apple, details of the new mobile device are hard to come by, but what we do know is that the phone will run Apple's iOS operating system.

What will this mean for the mobile gambling industry? Will it be possible to play real-money poker, bingo, blackjack, slots or roulette apps on your watch? Will bookmakers be able to produce minimal versions of their bookmaker app to allow customers place a bet on a game via their watch?

If you are checking the horse racing form in the paper there will be a barcode you can scan that will bring up the odds for a particular race.

Yes, I can image QR codes will really take off once the iWatch and the inevitable Google Android Watch will be released. Paddy Power are also trying out new sports recognition software that allows you to point your iPhone's camera at any TV broadcast of a sporting event or horse race and their app will automatically deliver the latest in-play betting odds. This would be an extremely useful feature with the Apple iWatch.

I hope Apple are a little quicker approving real-money gambling apps for the Apple iWatch than they were for the iPhone and iPad. It was years before I could play Texas Hold'em cash games on my iPhone 3GS.

This week Google banned porn apps on their Google Glass. I wonder will they also decide to ban casino, poker and sports betting apps?

Yes, I'm afraid Google have also added apps that contain gratuitous violence, hate speech and gambling to the list of prohibited apps.

Will Google Glass users be able to install Non Google Play apps from other third party markets like GetJar?

I read this week that the new Apple iWatch won't be available until mid 2013, which is disappointing. Since Google have already shipped their Google Glass I was hoping Apple would release their watch this year also :-(

Yes, it's particularly disappointing when you consider that Newsweek are reporting Samsung are releasing an Android watch in September this year. Google have already released their Google Glass and now Samsung have beaten Apple to market with their wearable watch so I think Apple really need to speed things up when it comes to innovation. At the moment they just appear to be playing catch-up.

I suspect Apple will deliver something far slicker than the new Samsung Galaxy Gear Smart watch. It was a big disappointment in my opinion. Who want to wear a big clunky block of a thing on their wrist.

I agree. This watch has proved that Samsung need to have an Apple blueprint to work from like they did with the iPhone and iPad. Otherwise the hardware that they produce lacks style and isn't particularly innovative.

According to Business Korea Samsung have sold just 50,000 units of their Galaxy Gear watches since it was launched a few months ago, which is well below expectations given how aggressively the smartwatch has been marketed. All eyes will be on Apple next year to see what they can produce.

Even though none of us have seen the iWatch yet I think the screen size will be perfect for playing slots games. I'd imagine the display will be a little too small for iWatch blackjack or roulette but iWatch 3 or 5 reel slots games would work great.

Google have banned developers from creating gambling related apps for Google Glass. I wonder if Apple will introduce a similar ban for gambling apps for their wearable technology.

I'm sure that Apple will have different iWatch App Store for different countries. Google Play is a global app store so Google are not able to limit the availability of gambling apps to certain countries like Apple can. I'm sure Apple will also offer real money betting, casino and poker apps for iWatch in countries, such as the United Kingdom, Australia and Ireland.

So it turns out Apple didn't call their smartwatch the iWatch after all. Instead it will be called Apple Watch. It does look beautiful though.

Now that Apple have announced that the Apple Watch will have a very limited battery life (18 hours) it's unlikely the wearable device will be of any use for playing slots or poker.

Bookmakers will soon be able to develop native bookmaker apps for the Apple Watch as soon as watchOS2 is released. At the moment sports betting apps are run from the iPhone so you need to have your iPhone on you to place a bet. If you're out having a jog and you want to check the odds or get the latest score, the Apple Watch sportsbook apps won't work unfortunately.

i would love to see sports stars wearing an Apple Watch so we can see how their heart rate change at different times during a game. when a golfer is walking up to the 18th hole to make a putt to win a major tournament it would be interesting to see how the pressure affects their body.

are there any bookmaker apps for android smartwatches? i'm considering buying a huawei watch or maybe fossil q founder but if there aren't any cool betting apps then there's not much point.
