Quick question. Is there a difference between iphone poker apps and ipad poker apps? Do iPad developers make use of the iPads larger screens or is everything layed out exactly the same, just larger?

Also, is there any High Definition poker apps that have been developed specifically for the iPad.

    Hi Mike

Yes, most iPad and iPhone poker apps are the same. Everything is just enlarged on the iPad. Bwin are the only mobile poker room to have developed a poker app specifically for the iPad.

Unfortunatley, the Bwin iPad app is currently only available in the following european countries - Austria, Germany, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Slovakia, Switzerland or the United Kingdom

The app will be released in a range of new countries in the near future.

Up until now I think the focus of developers has been to develop iPhone poker apps because a lot more people have iPhone's than iPad's. I think we will see a lot more emphasis being put on developing iPad specific poker games in the future for the following reasons...

    1. Since the iPhone apps have already been developed, this will free up resources to concentrate on developing iPad dedicated poker apps
    2. iPad's are becoming increasingly popular which makes investing in iPad poker apps a much more lucrative prospect.
    3. iPad's are better suited to playing mobile poker. iPhone poker is great but it's a little hard to play for any longer than 30 mins on that small screen without getting a headache. The iPad on the other hand with its beautiful retina display touchscreen is made for playing extended poker sessions. The longer people play, the more rake poker rooms make.
    4. Developing poker apps just for the iPad could be very profitable for any poker room that corners that part of the market.

    What do you think?

Not all ipad and iphone poker apps are the same. For instance Switch Poker have recently made it possible to view up to 4 tables simultaneously on the iPad but this feature obviously isn't available on the iphone due to its smaller screen size.

No usually but it depends on the poker room in question. 888 have just released an iPad poker app in the United Kingdom but they still haven't released the iPhone version yet which suggests it will be different.

They were pretty much the same because even though the iPad had a bigger screen the aspect ratio between and iPhone and iPad was the same. Now with the arrival I suspect that is going to change because the iPhone 5 has a taller screen so the proportions are different. Many poker rooms will probably now update their poker apps to make use of new new larger screen on the iPhone5

in my experience most poker rooms design the layout of their smartphone and tablet apps differently. playing poker on tablets tend to me much easier.

Unibet have taken the unusual step of developing this tablet only poker app that can only be played on the iPad or on Android tablets. It doesn't work on the iPhone.
