888 is one of the best real money poker apps on the planet so Australian poker players will be sad to learn that from the 16th of January (2017) the 888 iOS and Android app will no longer be available down under. Over the past few days 888poker players based in Australia have been receiving emails informing them that they will no longer be able to play at the popular online poker room after the 16th.

The move shouldn't come as too big a shock to players as the Australian government announced back in November 2016 that they were updating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 to put a total ban on in-play sports betting, casino gaming and online poker. Online gambling companions that do no comply with the regulations will have to pay fines of over $7 million Australian dollars and their management team face imprisonment if they ever enter Australia. Online gambling companions operating in Australia will now be required to obtain a local license if they want to avoid these heavy fines and prison time.

It is expected that other major poker operators like PokerStars and Full Tilt will also withdraw their Android and iPhone poker apps from the Australian market in the coming weeks.

The good news is mobile poker players in Australia are still free to play at these bitcoin poker sites http://forums.iphonebettingapps.com...itcoin-poker-sites-for-iphone-or-android.280/

  2. This is one shocking news to me. I though only iphone will banned pokerstar in Australia now it is going to be banned also in android. Australian government is really making it hard for their citizen to gamble on their smartphones.

For anyone looking for a bit more detail, we've added an article relating to the Australian poker ban.

Australia is turning into a nanny state. You're not even allowed to bet live in-play over there. I hope bitcoin sportsbooks become popular there and make all their laws pointless.

Sadly BetOnline no longer accept Australian poker players who want to play for real money. BetOnline, Americas Cardroom, 888poker and PokerStars have all exited Australia in the past 12 months.
