    Hi Guys

Only a month to go to the biggest event in the National Hunt calendar in the United Kingdom, the Cheltenham Festival. So what are the apps you'll be using most on your iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini this year? Will you be watching a live streams of the Gold Cup on your tablet or will you be placing bets on the World Hurdle from your iPhone with a particular bookmaker? Whichever apps you plan to use for the Cheltenham Festival, we'd love to hear about them.

When it comes to UK and Irish racing I don't think you need much more than the Racing Post app. A detailed racecard, results, audio commentary, insider news and all the tips from every major newspaper. And it's free :D

The best app for the Cheltenham festival is for me without doubt the Racing Post. It is far easier to use and navigate than any bookmaker app and it has much much more in terms of information. It has cards, results, live tipping information, market movers, you can even place bets and watch races through it. For a free app, it is superb and I've yet to meet anyone who hasn't felt the same. Last year they also had a money-back offer throughout Cheltenham whereby you got your stake back if your horse came second in any race. I'll be glued to it again this year!!

I'm going to be traveling on business in the United States during Cheltenham race week. Will I be able to watch Channel 4 via the FilmOn app when I'm outside the United Kingdom?

    Hi Terry

Yes you will be able to watch Channel 4 racing abroad providing you use an UK VPN (Virtual Private Network) that will trick the app into thinking you are located in the United Kingdom. If you Google VPN you will find hundreds of options. We would recommend you try this TunnelBear app https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/tunnelbear/id564842283 because...
    • They offer half a gig data free every month
    • They offer an additional 1GB free a month if you tweet about them. If you don't have a twitter account you could just create one and send a tweet. It would only take a couple of minutes. If you are only planning to watch a few races then the free allowance should be plenty.
    • If you pay via the App Store, 1 months unlimited data costs less than £2.

Once the app is installed it's really straightforward but if you have any problems let me know.

    Enjoy Cheltenham

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to be in Ireland this year while the festival is taking place, will I be able to use the FilmOn app to watch the racing live on my iPhone in Eire?

Yes, you should still be able to access most of the United Kingdom TV channels from Ireland as BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are also broadcast there. Channel 4 Racing has coverage of the racing this year so you'll need to tune into Channel 4 .

If you have any problem watching a live stream of the Cheltenham Festival on your iPhone using FilmOn then you could also try the RTE Player app which stream live television and also repeats from the national broadcaster. https://itunes.apple.com/ie/app/rte-player/id484129073?mt=8

Obviously Cheltenham is a big deal in Ireland too so you will be able to watch all the big races like the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the TV also.

For the Cheltenham Festival 2015 we would recommend PaddyPower as the best horse racing apps because....
    • Their messenger app for iOS and Android is the best text betting app for phones.
    • You can watch every race from the Cheltenham racecourse on your iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone or Android.
    • Increase your winnings thanks to Paddy Powers enhanced mobile racing odds.
    • Get exclusive Cheltenham tips from some of the UK and Ireland's top jockeys via the app.
    • PP offer more Cheltenham money back specials than any other bookie.

Here are my top 3 apps for Cheltenham.

    1. Racing Post - An absolute must for news, tips and form for anyone planning to take a punt on the Queen Mother Champion Chase or Gold Cup.
    2. OLBG - A unique app if you want to get racing information and tips from regular punters rather than industry tipsters.
    3. Paddy Power - I'll probably keep a close eye on their money back specials throughout Cheltenham week.
