    Hi

Are there any free apps out there that allow iPhone or Android users watch live GAA games from Ireland such as gaelic football and hurling?

It would be nice if they also worked abroad so I could see the games while on holidays but it's not essential.

You appear to have two options if you would like to watch Irish television on your iPad or iPhone.

    OPTION 1 - RTE PLAYER

The RTE iPlayer streams live television from both RTE 1 and RTE 1 so you should be able to watch any GAA hurling or football matches live on your phone or tablet. Due to broadcasting rights the live broadcasts will only be available if you live in Ireland. If you live abroad then you will need to use a VPN service that offers an Irish IP address like www.hidemyass.com.

If you are based outside of Ireland you should still be able to watch programmes like "The Sunday Game" which offer highlights of all the big GAA championship games. RTE also have broadcasting rights for Champions League games, horse racing like the Cheltenham Festival, the Grand National, Leopardstown, Punchestown etc and the World Cup/Olympics.

The RTE iPlayer app can be downloaded free here https://itunes.apple.com/ie/app/rte-player/id484129073?mt=8

    OPTION 2 - AERTV

Another useful service is this Aer TV service http://www.aertv.ie that streams all the Irish television channels live, including RTE, TV3, TG4, 3E and other services. You don't need to download an app, just browse to the website and the streams are iOS compatible so you don't need Flash. Again, if you are not based in Ireland you will need to us a Virtual Private Network that offer an Irish VPN so that your computer will appear to be based in Ireland.

I'm not sure if FilmOn.com broadcast Irish television channels? Does anyone know?

Awesome, signed up for an Irish VPN and both the RTE iPlayer and AERTV have been working like a dream :) Such a shame Dublin beat Mayo this weekend but it was great to be able to watch the GAA football final live while abroad.

Does anyone know of a VPN that just offers an Irish I.P. address. Hide My Ass is great but I don't need VPN's in 62 countries so it's a bit of a waste of $12 a month. I'd rather pay just a couple of dollars specifically for VPN in Ireland.

No, I'm afraid all the VPN's I know come as a bundle. You need to buy the entire package at a fixed price and you're not able to cherry pick a selection of countries to reduce the price.

Fans of gaelic football and hurling can now watch live matches on their phone or tablet with the new GAA GO app https://gaago.rte.ie/faq GAA Go is currently browser based so there is no application to download. GAAGO works on most iOS devices, Windows Phone Devices running V8 and on BlackBerry V10 models and later. It also stream games on most popular Android devices, including the Samsung Galaxy Note, HTC One, Google Nexus, Sony Xperia, LG G2 or the Motorola Moto.

A season ticket to watch over 100 games live on your computer or mobile device will set up back Eur160. If you just want to watch your own country team play then you can just pay Eur10 per game.

A discussion has started over there on the Official GAA/RTE GAAGO app for mobile devices. You find answers to most questions regardless of whether you're a Kilkenny hurling or Kerry football fan.

The BBC Northern Ireland section of the BBC iPlayer often has GAA and programs on other Irish sports.

If you're a fan of Irish greyhound racing so should download the Barking Buzz app for iOS and Android. It lets you watch live dog racing from every Irish dog track, including Shelbourne Park and Harolds Cross, on your phone at no cost.

sky sports won the rights to broadcast some of the football and hurling matches from the GAA championship so if you have a skysports account you can login to their app and watch many of the games live on your phone.

Are there any apps that will allow me to watch Irish horse racing on my phone for free?

If you want to watch Irish horse racing live then unfortunately you'll have to pay. The "At The Races" iOS and Android app does show replays of Irish horse races for free.
