I recently acquired an iPhone 6 and I'm thinking about setting-up Apple Pay on the device. My wife does most of the food and clothes shopping so I'm rarely in a supermarket but I do visit my local William Hill and Ladbrokes betting shops at the weekends. Do any of the bookmakers in the UK allow you to make payments using Apple Pay yet?
No yet because Apple Pay won't be available in the UK or the rest of Europe until at least 2015. Major chains like McDonalds and Subway have already adopted the contactless payment service in the the US but retailers in the UK and Ireland have been dragging their heels a little with contactless wallets. Once the technology becomes more widely adopted outside the US, I'm sure we'll see bookmakers install Apple Pay terminals in their betting shops. Sky Bet have already introduced Apple TouchID to their iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 apps, which allows punters login and place a bet using just their fingerprint. http://forums.iphonebettingapps.com...ecomes-first-betting-app-to-use-Apple-TouchID
Will Apple Payments also work if you want to deposit with online gambling sites? For instance, if I want to lodge a £100 at my favorite online bookmaker or poker roms will I be able to use just use my thumbprint rather than have to fill in my credit card number and personal data?
If they choose to invest in NFC payment terminals I don't see why bookmakers can't offer Apple Pay to their customers. Once the Apple Watch becomes more ubiquitious they will probably be a necessity.
Apple Pay is coming to the UK very soon. The first batch of UK banks to offer Apple Pay include First Direct, Nationwide, HSBC, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Ulster Bank. Apple Pay will work with Visa, Mastercard and American Express in the United Kingdom.
Here's a list of Apple Pay outlets in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately they don't list any bookmakers yet. It's mainly just high-street stores like Boots and M&S http://www.apple.com/uk/apple-pay/where-to-use-apple-pay/
Apple Pay looks like it might be a flop. The percentage of consumers that used Apple Pay this Black Friday was only half the number that used it last year. If this trend continues I think it's unlikely that any gambling operators will accept Apple Pay.
the technology seems a little redundant since it's just as easy to swipe a card with NFC embedded in the card. taking out your phone, unlocking it and finding the app takes longer.
Apple Pay seems to have been an embarrassing flop for Apple. I think I use bitcoin more than Apple Pay these days.
