My brother is going giving me his old Apple iPhone 3G. It's pretty dated at this stage but I was wondering if any the main sports betting apps or poker apps will work on it or do they require the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4? I'll probably get an iPhone 5 when that comes out later this year but this should do for now. Thanks
Hi Doyler Yes, I don't think you will be a problem getting any mobile sports betting, casino or poker apps working on the iPhone 3GS. You may, however, need to update iOS to the latest version. You can do this for free by pluggin your iPhone into your Mac or PC and launching iTunes. You should then be asked if you want to update to the latest version. Sebastian
Thanks Seb. I updated my new iPhone 3GS to the latest version of iOS and I haven't had any problems running any of the poker or sportsbook apps on the phone. Thanks for your help!
The great thing about the iPhone is even old versions like the iPhone 3 can still upgrade to the latest version of iOS. Androids are a complete disaster is this area. There are some many flavors of the Android OS at this stage and older Droids aren't able to upgrade to newer ones like Froyo and Ice Cream. This fragmentation is going to cause huge problems for them in the future.
Yes, I agree. After I recently updated the OS on my old iPhone 3GS I was delighted to see that it now supported AirPlay. I already use Apple TV and AirPlay via my iPad 3 but it was a nice surprise to also have it on my old phone.
I think we're going to see more and more native apps stop working on the iPhone 3 in the near future. For instance, the Whatsapp app no longer functions on the iPhone 3. You need at least an iPhone 3GS now so I'd expect the same to happen soon so some gaming apps.
I think that even if some of the native apps stop working, users will still be able to use the browser based version, which are identical and work from the Safari browser. For example, Bet365 offer both an App Store and web based version that are indistinguishable form each other. The web version doesn't need to be updated and works in every country (except the US).
I don't think the iPhone 3 supports iOS7 so if any apps have features that require iOS7 then I'm afraid you're out of luck.
