Back in 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder reversed a 1961 bill that banned all types of online gambling in the United States of America. Under his ruling the restrictions on online gambling only applied to sports betting and States were permitted to legalise online poker and casinos if they chose to do so. Since then, Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey have legalised online gambling and other splan to follow in a bid to raise much needed revenue. According to a report in the Washington Post this week, a group of Democratic and Republican senators have introduced a new bill that would once again result in any form of online gambling being restricted in the USA. When will the United States government realise that prohibition has not and will never work in the US. There are plenty of options available to US citizens who want to play real money poker or place a sports bet online. With a growing number of offshore gambling companies opening their doors to US players, this law will be unenforceable and will just result in individual states losing vital tax revenue.
This is utterly ludicrous and will be virtually impossible to police. These Senators must be on the payroll of brick and mortar casinos and racetracks in the United States who don't want to see online gambling erode their lucrative businesses. Alternatively they're just dumbasses who don't understand anything about technology. Mobile betting, poker and casino apps are mostly web based these days so anybody with a smartphone and an internet connection can access and there isn't a damn thing the US senate can do about it. For instance, this Carbon web app allows US citizens play poker and place bets from any type of iPhone, Android or Windows Phone 8 handset. http://www.iphonebettingapps.com/carbon-sports-us.html The US economy is already loosing hundreds of millions of dollars every year because U.S. sports bettor and poker players are depositing money off shore at the online gambling companies. This new piece of legislation will only further hurt the already struggling USA economic recovery.
I think this has little to do with practicality and have more to do with lobby groups in the United States who have vested interest in online gambling never being legalised in the US. Many states have large casino operations who are funding their politicians campaigns in return for them legislating against US online casinos and poker rooms. It's a compete waste of time as a number of quality offshore mobile casinos are now available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices. For instance, both Drake Casino (Read Review) and Carbon Casino (Read Review) can be played on any internet enabled smartphone/tablet in the United States because they are browser based and work in any country.
more and more gambling sites are accepting bitcoin these days. since bitcoin is totally anonymous the usa authorities have zero chance of every policing these sites. they should regulate and try to collect some taxes because prohibition is completely futile.
California look like they'll be the next US state to introduce regulated online poker. They will join Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware who's citizens have been playing real money poker on their phones and tablets for the past year. The bad news is the new bill would prohibit online poker rooms like PartyPoker from acquiring a license because they continued accepting players from the US after UIGEA.
i've recently started using the cloudbet bookmaker app for sports betting in the USA and I'm pretty impressed. the software works great on my iPhone 6, it has every betting market from the NFL and NBA that you could want and there is no problems depositing or cashing out like there is with off shore sportsbooks.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings have been ordered to block users from New York. More states are sure to follow their lead and ban the fantasy betting sites. This is good news for off-shore sports betting sites who pay no taxes in the United States.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings have been banned from Hawaii, Arizona, Iowa, Nevada, Montana, New York, Texas and Washington. The list just gets longer and longer.
