    UPDATE JULY 2016

Sky Bet no longer stream soccer games live via their mobile apps. The best bookmaker for live European soccer on your phone is Bet365.

Most of us know Sky from their satellite broadcasting network. They have the broadcasting rights for thousands of sporting event, including most of the games in the English Premier League. When they launched SkyBet a few years back we were super excited because we presumed they would also be streaming football, soccer, golf, tennis, rugby etc via their mobile apps. Sadly that didn't happened immediately but we're glad to report that they're now offering free live streams of Spanish La Liga to their bookmaker app on iPhone, iPad, Android (Samsung Galaxy etc), Nokia Lumia Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices. Here is what we know so far...

    • Streams of the games are free providing you have an account with SkyBet.
    • Every La Liga game that is NOT broadcast on SkySports will be available to watch via their app.
    • The first batch of games will include Spanish teams such as Osasuna, Real Valladolid, Athletic Bilbao, Malaga, Valencia, Elche, Real Betis, Sevilla, Villarreal and Levante.
    • You can watch the games on any tablet or mobile device with a WiFi, 3G, LTE or 4G connection.
    • Get a £30 free matched bet and a £5 free bet every week when you sign-up.

La Liga is the Primera División of the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional and is contested by 20 teams, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

That's a pretty awesome free feature. It's about time Sky Bet started streaming sports events from their Sky Sports channels.

Is there somewhere I can find the latest schedule of upcoming La Liga games that they'll be streaming to smartphones?

it says on their La Lida page that "please be aware that the data supplied is subject to a delay". the games are live right? why would there be a delay on the live stream?

There may be a slight delay between when the action actually happens and when you see it on your phone but this is not deliberate. Unfortunately the action has the travel across a network before it arrives on your iPhone, iPad or Samsung. If you're network provider only offers a slow 3G connection then you might see a goal a couple of seconds after someone watching the same game live on their TV. SkyBet are probably obliged to include this disclaimer incase someone watching a La Liga game via their app places a large in-play bet on the game.

Looks like SkyBet are streaming La Liga games to their betting app this season (2014) too. This weeks games include Real Madrid v Espanyol, Barcelona v Atletico Madrid, Valencia v Celta Vigo and a bunch of others. Can't wait :D

The quality of the stream is really good if you have a decent 3G connection. On WiFi the picture is crystal clear.

Yes. Any La Liga games that will be streamed via the SkyBet iPhone, iPad or Android apps will also be showed on the SkyBet website so you don't even need a smartphone or tablet to watch them.

I've watched international cricket matches and soccer leagues from Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and much of other South American countries. on my Android tablet. The Ladbrokes app also streamed many of the recent European Championship 2016 qualifier games.

These free live streams also provide an audience for sporting events that might otherwise have followers. It's especially great that women's football and basketball matches are streamed regularly to raise their profile.

If you're a fan of Major League Soccer teams like LA Galaxy and DC United, you'll be glad to hear that Sky Bet now also stream US soccer games from their website and mobile apps.

Nice! As a lifelong Liverpool FC fan I look forward to seeing how Steven Gerrard performs in the MLS league this year.

Now that the 2015 soccer season has come to an end, will Sky Bet be live streaming other sports over the course of the summer? For instance, will we be able to watch the Rugby World Cup from England and Cardiff?

I think during the summer months the only soccer they are live streaming is Major League Soccer (MLS) from the United States. If you want to watch sports on your phone for free then Bet365 broadcast more sports than any other internet sportsbook

can i watch NFL american football games on my phone with these sportsbooks?

No. NFL football broadcasting rights are notoriously expensive to buy so I don't think we'll see any internet sportsbooks live streaming NFL games in the near future.
