Hey, I've got an iPhone 5 and a Google Nexus 7 tablet and I'd like to know what are the best Australian bookmaker apps for both iOS and Android phones and tablets. I know the big european bookmakers like Bet365 cover most sports from Australia but I'm looking for an app with more of a focus on the NRL and AFL. Live streaming of horse racing from Sydney and Melbourne would also be a bonus.

I've met quiet a few Aussies over the years and each and every one of them have been sports fanatics. Sydney hosted the Summer Olympics back in 2000, Melbourne is home to one of the world's great horse races (The Melbourne Cup), and Australia has won the Rugby World Cup on 2 separate occasions. Like most nations that take their sports seriously, Australians also enjoy like putting on the occasional bet, whether it be Australian Rules, The Ashes Cricket or Rugby Union and League. In our opinion these are the best Australian bookmaker apps for iPhone, Android (HTC, Google Nexus, Samsung), BlackBerry and Nokia Lumia (Windows Phone) devices.

    BET365 AUS MOBILE - WWW.BET365.COM.AU
    • They have developed an Australian specific website and betting app that has a strong focus on the most popular Australian leagues and sports, such as the NFL and AFL. Australian customers also get full access to all their global markets from their tablets and smartphones.
    • Bet 365 stream thousands of sporting events every year via their website and mobile apps.
    • If you like horse racing, you can watch live streaming from every racecourse in the United Kingdom and Ireland on your tablet or phone. The app also features a comprehensive racing form and tips section.
    • Bet-365 Mobile provides up-to-the-minutes scores and results from thousands of markets around the globe.
    • No download required. Just create and account and you're ready to go.

Does Bet 365 stream different sports to their app depending on which country you are living in? If you live in the UK will you be able to watch live sports like English soccer, darts and cricket, while in Australia do they stream a different selection of sports with more of an Aussie focus?

I've stared to use the Bet365 Audio Center feature quiet a lot recently to get live commentary on big football matches, greyhound racing and horse races. It's totally free to listen to the commentaries and preview programs on your iPhone and you don't even need to have an account. In the In-Play section just look for the little Audio symbol.

Bet365 also offer the excellent "Match Live" service that enables you to follow a game as it happens using live visualisations of the soccer/rugby pitch, tennis court, handball court, dart board etc.

I've attached screenshots of this awesome feature which might explain it better but basically the "Match View" section allows you to see a visual representation of a football pitch. You can see which team has possession and follow key events like corners, goal kicks, throw-ins and free kicks. Detailed stats are also provided on dangerous attacks, shot on target, shots off target and red/yellow cards.

This type of information is crucial for anyone thinking about placing a live in-play bet on a soccer, rugby, darts, basket ball, handball or tennis match because it enables you to visually see which team has the momentum. When you're just looking at a latest score statistic it is hard to figure out who has the upper hand in a game.

I regularly travel to the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the United States on business. Will these Australian iPhone bookies still work while I'm outside the country?

if you use the web apps you won't have a problem. if you choose to download the versions from the apple app store then they probably won't work in the usa. most native gambling apps work in the uk so there shouldn't be a problem there.

If you were an existing customer of IASbet (originally called Darwin All Sports) you're probably already aware that they've now merged with SportsBet. Both Australian sportsbooks were bought by Paddy Power a number of years ago but they continues to operate as seperate bookmakers. The Irish bookies have now made the decision to merge ISAbet with SportsBet to form one giant betting company. Existing ISAbet customers can now login to SportsBet with the same username and password and any player balances have also been transferred.

Nobody likes having to make the transition from one app to another but existing ISAbet customers will now benefit from many of the money back specials that Paddy Power introduced to SportsBet. For example, during the NFL finals, if your team is in the lead for the first half and goes onto lose, SportsBet will refund your bet. Theyl also run AFL and NRL Fantasy Footy competition with huge prizes.

I watched the Australian Tennis Open last year via the Bet365 app and I occasionally watch the occasional Champions League soccer game if a big name like Barcelona F.C. or Manchester United are playing. I was wondering does Bet365 stream any other types of sports from Australia?

I don't think they stream major Australian sporting events like AFL matches because the broadcasting rights for Australian football is owned by various pay-per-view channels. They do stream quiet a lot of Rugby Union and Rugby League matches from around the world though. Soccer leagues from Europe and South America also feature heavily in their schedule.

I used the Australian Betfred app a bit because they gave decent odds for horse racing and they had some decent promotions. When I checked their website this morning I was surprised to find they'd closed their doors in Australia. They transferred the money back to my Visa so I didn't lose anything but I'll be sorry to see them go. Apparently the Aussie market is too populated and they couldn't drum up enough in the 6 months that they were here.

Major Australian bookmaker brands CentreBet, SportingBet and Tom Waterhouse will soon be disappearing and will be replaced by a single William Hill website and app. The re-branding will take place at different stages throughout 2015 and 2016.

Visitors to the SportingBet website are automatically now forward to the William Hill Australia website. If you had an account with SportingBet you can just login to the WH Australia website and you're player balance will already have been transferred. Pending bets and your betting history will also have been transferred.

It's not just SportingBet that has been affected. Tom Waterhouse and CentreBet were also bought by William Hill and will be renamed as William Hill Australia. This will create a giant internet bookmaker that will hopefully results in betters odds, improved features and betting promotions.

It's nice to see that William Hill are are continuing many of the promotions that were popular at SportingBet like the AFL Pick The Ladder.

Ladbrokes became the first Australian bookie to release an Apple Watch betting app this week. The Ladbrokes Apple Watch software syncs up with the main iOS app on your iPhone to allow you to place bets on sports, horse racing and greyhound racing from the iWatch. The Apple Watch will display notifications when you've won a bet and there is a counter that tells you how long until the next event that you've wagered on. Live betting odds and sports/racing results are also easily accessed via the wearable device.

Bet365 have recently introduced a new feature called betCall that allows sports bettors in Australia to quickly place in-play bets by initiating a call to Bet365 via their website or mobile app. The betCall feature is free and makes in-play betting super quick and easy on Android or Apple iOS devices.

The Paddy Power owned SportsBet now live streams horse racing from racecourses in Victoria, Australia. You can watch these races from your desktop, tablet or phone for free provided you have a account with SportsBet. They've also started live streaming sports like soccer, rugby, tennis and basketball for free.
