So the rumor mill seems to be cranking up and more and more details of the new iPhone 5 are leaking everyday. As usual there will be a lot of speculation, some right and some wrong, on the run up to it's release in September or October. One thing we can be pretty sure of is the screen will be considerably larger in the iPhone 5. What affect do you guys thinks the new iPhone will have on sports betting, poker and casino apps?
To be honest I don't think the release of the iPhone 5 will have any major affect on gambling apps. I'm sure casino and poker developers will welcome a larger screen to play with. It can't have been easy to develop blackjack, roulette or Texas Hold'em apps for such a small screen. Most sports betting apps are web based these days and they just expand or contract depending on whether you are using a large Samsung Galaxy touchscreen or an iPhone.
the next iphone is strongly rumored to contain an electronic payments system integrated into the phone. will this mean that online gamers won't even need to use their credit cards to withdraw or lodge money into their poker, casino or sports betting. will everything just go through itunes in the future?
Most of the Mac rumour sites now seem to agree that the new iPhone 5 won't have a near-field communications (NFC) radio chip which would allow payments. Apple have a tendency to surprise people so we'll just have to wait and see when the iphone is released in a couple of weeks.
Seems the rumor mill was wrong again in terms of NFC. Looks like that won't be integrated until the iPhone 6 at the earliest. I'm not sure it would have been applicable to mobile poker or sports betting anyway?
I've been lucky enough to have got my hands on an iPhone 5 and I can confirm it lives up to the hype. It's slick, beautiful and new A6 processor is lightening fast. I'm not sure it will revolutionize regular casino games like blackjack or roulette because they don't require much processing power but it certainly improve gameplay of console games on the iPhone.
It doesn't seem to have change mobile gambling at all. It will be interesting to see how the iPhone 5 and the iWatch will be used together when it finally gets released, hopefully later this year. I can huge potential for the iWatch when it comes to simple casino games and sports betting.
I think the Touch ID feature in the new iPhone 5S has huge potential for the gambling industry. At the moment you can only use this feature to login to your iPhone or to buy apps from the iTunes App Store. I'm pretty sure Apple will soon open up this technology so that you will be able to login to your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or gambling accounts by just pressing your thumb against the start button. It's quick, easy and far more secure than a simple password.
Sadly according to AllThingsD it looks like Apple won't be giving developers access to their fingerprint technology in the near future. I think it is inevitable that they will eventually open access to third parties although Phil Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President refused to answer exactly when that would be. Apple did reassure users that their fingerprint information would only be stored on the phone itself and they would not have a central database containing all of their customers fingerprints.
It's doesn't come as a surprise that Samsung are preparing to introduce a fingerprint scanner to their flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 when it is released in April. However, the South Korean based company have gone one step further than Apple by allowing users to authenticate payments via PayPal using this new technology. This means if your mobile bookmaker, casino or poker room accepts PayPal payments, you'll literally be able to transfer money to and from your account with just the swipe of a finger.
I wish Apple would open up their Touch ID to third party developers. Maybe they're waiting until they introduce their own mobile payment system. If they integrate it with the Touch ID system then they'd immediately have hundreds of millions of customers.
Apple have now opened Touch ID in iOS8. Financial apps like Mint are already developing software to take advantage of the fingerprint recognition technology. Up until now only the iPhone 5S had a fingerprint scanner so it would have worth it to introduce it in iOS7.
Sky Bet have become the first mobile betting company to introduce TouchID fingerprint scanning to their mobile apps. Sports bettor and poker players at Sky can now login to their accounts using just their fingerprints on the latest iPhone and iPad models.
