Paddy-Power have lived up to their reputation as being the leading bookmaker when it comes to innovative mobile technology by releasing a brand new iPad specific sports app. While most bookmakers develop one mobile site for all smartphone or tablet devices, Paddy-Power have gone one step further by developing an iOS app that makes the most of the Apple tablets larger retina display touchscreen. great to see a bookmaker finally develop something specifically for the ipad. most bookies just offer the same app that's available for the iphone which is ridiculous considering how much bigger the ipad's screen is.
Yes, it's great to see an online bookmaker invest heavily in tablet apps and not just focus on smartphones. The heavy investment is paying off for PaddyPower as almost 50% of their online revenue now comes from bets place via mobile devices. This is double the rate their competitors enjoy so PP customers obviously enjoy using their sports betting apps. The number of iPad's in the United Kingdom is also set to double to 20 million by 2015 so PP obviously see a great opportunity there to tap into the growing tablet market early. I'm sure a similar version is in the pipeline for Android and Windows Phone also.
i was skeptical at first. the ipad screen is big enough to browse the main website so i didn't see the point. after using it for a few weeks now i'm completely hooked. it's much easier to navigate on the ipad than the paddy power website and you can place a bet faster too.
It's a really nice tablet app especially if you're planning to watch their live horse racing. It's just a shame they don't follow Bet365's lead and also stream soccer, basketball, tennis and other sports.
Coral have developed an iPad specific app too that has some additional features. I'm surprised big names like William Hill and Ladbrokes haven't done the same given how popular the Apple tablet is.
It is kinda surprising that neither Ladbrokes or William Hill have developed iPad specific apps but I guess they're just not as hungry as smaller bookies like PaddyPower and Coral who are competing for third price. Mobile devices are the future of sports betting so I think both Ladbrokes and William Hill would be better off spending less time focusing on their betting shops and more time creating software for tablets like the iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Here is a video demonstration we found of the Paddy Power iPad sports betting app in action. To download visit Paddy Power.
It's a really well designed app. Nice to see they've now also added the cash-put option that's come so popular. Football fans are also spoiled with tons of stats for the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga etc. I've noticed that live streaming of horse racing is also available from more countries through the iPad. With my Android smartphone I can only watch live horse racing from Ireland and the UK but when I log-in to iPad I also get access to racecourses in Dubai, South America and South Africa.
best overall sports app but be aware that it may not work outside the england, scotland, ireland etc. i recently went on a business trip to the united states and it wouldn't active the entire time that i was there.
seeing as the iphone 6l is almost as big as the ipad mini now, do you think that internet sportsbooks will continue developing tablet specific apps?
I just checked on their iTunes page and it appears that Paddy Power still develop an bookie app specifically for the iPad.
I think most online bookmakers worth their salt offer a specific version for smartphones and tablets. Tablets are in every house now and it's often much easier to browse betting lines from an iPad so it makes sense to develop a specific version. Tablets are also much better for watching live streams.
