Apple appear to have lost their mojo following disappointingly quarterly results last week that fell well short of their targets. It appears that demand for Apple's iPhone and iPad has dropped and Samsung appear to be gathering momentum. Now that Apple are facing stiff competition from other smarthphone and tablet developers is there a chance that they will allow more real-money poker, bookmaker and casino games into their App Store?
I think it's unlikey in the shorts term. Apple initially refused to approve any type of adult apps in their App Store because Steve Jobs took quiet a puritanical view of gambling and pornography apps. That stance has changed slightly over the last couple of years, now Apple only refuse gambling apps because online gambling is not legal in every country. They are not going to risk expensive and distracting court cases just because of a dip in share prices.
i don't think it really matters. web apps are just as good and you don't need to keep updating them so why bother going to the trouble of downloading and installing an app store app. you will still need an internet connection to play them so it makes no difference imo.
It is also worth noting that real-money gambling apps are always free to download from the App Store so Apple make zero money from poker, blackjack, roulette, bingo or sports betting apps. It's not really going to make them a great deal of money but it would cause them a lot of legal headaches.
Yes, but someone who is really into poker may decide to buy an Android phone because there is a greater selection of real-money apps. Apple may not make any additional money from app but they could sell more hardware by allowing more gambling apps onto their phones.
Fair point HK Betting. If you live in Europe and especially the United Kingdom you can pretty much play all the Android poker apps on an iPhone or iPad. If you live elsewhere then I could understand poker players opting for an Android device if they're really into mobile poker. Thankfully the new Carbon Poker app for United States players is web based so it will work on Blackberry, iOS, Android and Windows Phones.
Steve Jobs is no longer so Apple's decision to not allow real-money gambling apps is purely a legal one and not a moral one. By allowing gambling companies to offer their software in countries where online gambling is illegal, Apple could be creating a legal shit storm for themselves. It should be remembered that neither Google nor Microsoft allow real money gambling applications in their app marketplaces either.
i haven't heard of any yet. i'm not sure if there will be any stand alone apple watch bookmaker apps but i think they will be able to sync them up with the main iphone app so that you receive live scores and notifications on the iphone.
Both Google and Apple now allow fantasy sports betting apps like FanDuel and DraftKings into their app stores. Even United States sports bettors can download these fantasy app from Google Play and the App Store on iTunes.
A number of Apple Watch bookmaker apps have appeared for the Apple Watch. Major internet betting sites like Ladbrokes, William Hill and UniBet have released software for the smartwatch.
